How to Figure Out When It’s Time
Your pet’s quality of life and prognosis are guiding factors in the decisions you have to make about your pet’s end-of-life care. You’ll need to consider questions such as:
- Is my pet consistently refusing to eat and drink?
- Has my pet lost an abnormal amount of weight?
- Does my pet regularly have accidents in the house/outside the litter box?
- Does my pet seem to be in pain most of the time (whimpering, shaking, crying, hiding)?
- Is my pet far less sociable than they used to be?
- Does my pet have difficulty getting up/lying down?
These are just some of the questions we will ask to understand your pet’s health and situation. We know how stressful it can be to think about these issues, especially if your pet is struggling. We are always here to help.
Options for Memorializing Your Pet
Before or after your pet’s euthanasia procedure, Abell Animal Hospital can help you decide on how best to handle your pet’s remains. Some options include a clay paw print, private cremation and an urn of your choice, and hair clippings. You can also make a donation to have a tree planted in your pet’s name.
